How to Get Your Skin Ready for Summer
Spending time outdoors is important for our physical and mental health. In many places, beaches have started allowing guests in and other outdoor activities are becoming more popular as the weather heats up. To prepare your skin for the summer months, we have come up with some tips that will boost your skin’s hydration and prepare it for fun in the sun.
Everyone agrees that protecting your skin from the sun is the most important step in your summer skincare routine. Although you should use SPF year-round, it is important to remember this step even more in the summer, since you will probably be spending more time in the sun. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher regularly as directed. Don’t forget to apply every two hours or immediately after swimming, and always limit your time in the sun or use a barrier like a hat or an umbrella.
We know that overexposure to the sun can increase your risk of skin cancer, but there are other negative effects as well. Overexposure to the sun or frequent burning can cause premature aging, including age spots, wrinkles and loss of collagen. Even though you might be heading to the beach to develop your tan, always use sunscreen.
Remove Peach Fuzz
Sunlight can enhance the appearance of peach fuzz and even make it look darker. If you are planning on spending your summers soaking up those rays (while wearing your SPF of course!), you may start to notice your peach fuzz more than you did during the winter.
Along with causing a duller appearance, peach fuzz can even contribute to acne as the hairs trap oil and bacteria. With the Hollywood Browzer, a hair removal and dermaplaning tool, you can remove that unwanted peach fuzz in a safe and easy way. If you are headed out the door to enjoy a fun beach day with friends and you notice your peach fuzz is starting to show, simply remove them with a Hollywood Browzer which will leave no tell tale signs of hair removal like waxing, threading and tweezing, which can irritate your skin and cause redness.
Using the Browzer to gently remove the dead skin and pesky hairs from your face won’t irritate your skin, and you can even carry it with you for emergency touch-ups. (You never know when you're going to spot a rogue hair!) Plus, using the Browzer is much more affordable than frequent salon trips. Removing peach fuzz will make you less self-conscious about your facial hair and more confident in your natural glow that will radiate in your summertime selfies.
Moisturise, Moisturise, Moisturise
After you exfoliate and remove all that dead skin and peach fuzz with the Hollywood Browzer, you’ll want to add moisture back into your skin. This step is another one that should be in your skincare routine year-round, but it is especially important in the summertime. The hydration from a good moisturiser will battle against the sun and smooth the skin. Plus, moisturisers are known to lock in a tan, so using one will make your tanning results from laying out at the beach last longer. Instead of using a rich cream moisturiser, you may want to try a water-based moisturiser. Look for moisturisers that include hyaluronic acid and aloe vera water, since these ingredients are lightweight and help provide long-lasting hydration.
Wear Lighter and More Hydrating Makeup
It can be difficult to transition from full glam makeup to natural makeup during the summer, but a low-key makeup look is the best choice for a summer outing. Heavy foundations and powder can mix with dirt from outdoor activities and sweat, and the result can be a cakey makeup or even acne.
Summer is the perfect time to opt for a lightweight CC cream. Using a hydrating and lightweight CC cream will even out your complexion without looking and feeling heavy. If you want a quick no-makeup look, just add your CC cream, a little cream blush and highlight and some waterproof mascara.
Drink A LOT of water
The best way to hydrate your skin is to hydrate your body. Your body needs water to keep your skin healthy and hydrated, especially during the summer. Your body loses water in the summer, because you tend to spend more time outdoors – which means lots of sweating! You need to add all the water you lose back into your body, so you don’t become dehydrated. Increasing your water intake will improve your body’s hydration and help keep your skin detoxified and summer ready.
