How to Get The Most Out of Your Skincare Routine
Our skincare routines are not just a trend anymore; they have become part of our lives even moreso than doing our make-up. Fortunately, people have gotten more interested in what we put on our faces and we are always on the hunt for the best new products, with amazing ingredients that we didn’t even know existed until a few years ago. There are some key points to consider when building our routine, that will help achieve your best skin ever with the fewest products.
1. Use SPF
This is undoubtedly a step than many people forget (especially when it’s not summer), but ignoring this could make your routine useless. Other than being the ultimate anti-aging product, a broad spectrum SPF protects you from all other negative effects of UVA and UVB rays. There is a misconception that all sunscreens are greasy, but there are so many great options for all skin types and sensitive skin as well. It is important to choose an SPF of at least 30.
2. Apply products in the right order
With so many types of products to choose from, some might be lost on what to apply first, last and everything in between. Using them in the wrong order could make some steps useless or even clog your pores. We’ll list the right order for your morning and night time routine to help you out. A good rule of thumb is to start from the lightest product to the heaviest one. It is essential to always start with a cleanser (use an oil based one at night if you are removing your makeup), then go for a toner, then your serum, after that gently tap on your eye cream and end it with your moisturiser. The last step in your morning routine is SPF and the last one at night is oil, which seals in all the amazing products you just applied. It is super important to keep the oil for the end and have it be the last product applied given that the other products can’t penetrate an oil so it would be a huge waste of your time and money.
What if you found the best products ever but they don’t actually get absorbed by your skin? A tragedy; but this is when Dermaplaning saves the day. All the ‘peach fuzz’ (vellus hair on your face) and the top layer of dead skin cells are obstacles to the steps of your routine.
Dermaplaning completely removes them and exfoliates your skin making it smooth and soft. With nothing in their way, your skincare products effectively penetrate the skin, making the money spent on that perfect moisturiser and serum 100% worth it as you are getting 100% of your money’s worth rather than only 10% or 20% with the rest just sitting on the top layer of skin.
4. Choose the right product for your skin type
With so much hype around newly released skincare products, it is easy to get carried away and get that new mask or toner everyone is talking about. It is crucial (and convenient) to consider your skin type when buying a new product. Getting products for oily skin could make your skin drier, just like using too many exfoliating ingredients at the same time, so finding the right balance is key.
